About
As a high school English teacher for ten years, I was intrigued by writers like Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I loved a sense of darkness in my books, so in 2017, I sat down to write my first thriller, The Widow Next Door.
I’d published thirteen romances at that point and wanted to bring the deep characterization and emotional style of writing to the thriller genre. I wanted to write about deep topics in eerie ways and leave the reader haunted long after the last page. The Widow Next Door was selected on open submission by HarperCollins UK and released in 2019. It went on to hit the USA Today Bestseller’s list in 2019 and is also in audio format. As I got to know the genre better, though, I realized one problem: a lot of the books were the same. There was a formula for a successful thriller; I wanted to step outside of the box, though. I wanted to write books that really shocked and surprised the reader. I wanted books with deep, introspective literary value that could be discussed, analyzed, and impactful. So, I stepped outside of the box a bit and wrote the stories that haunted me. I’m happy that many of these stories have haunted thousands of readers in all the ways I’d hoped. In 2020, The Diary of a Serial Killer’s Daughter was awarded the bronze thriller medal by Readers’ Favorite and became an International Bestseller. It’s also been translated into Polish. Several of my other thriller and horror titles such as The Flayed One have become bestsellers and were translated into other languages. Today, I continue to pursue my goal of writing thriller and horror novels that go beyond the confines of the typical thriller equation. I write highly emotional thrillers with tons of twists and turns but also depth to the characters. I want readers to be able to put themselves in my characters’ shoes in ways that stick with them after the long page. I write about important topics such as domestic abuse, bullying, and mental illness in ways I hope bring awareness to the topics. I currently live in Pennsylvania with my husband, Chad; our Great Dane, Edmund (who pops up in my books); and our six rescued cats. I’m a Communications Specialist by day and a lover of all things macabre and creepy by night. I also write on the sweeter side of the romance genre under Lindsay Detwiler. If you’re ready for thrillers that are unpredictable and twisted in meaningful ways, come join me as I deliver reads that never feel cookie cutter. My books are for the wolves, not the sheep; they sting sometimes in their raw, unfiltered look at the darkness in humanity. |
